Consolidated PBY Catalina. The Consolidated Model 28 or Catalina first flew in 1935 and entered service with the United States Navy in 1936. As a flying boat and amphibious aircraft, the Catalina was operated as a maritime bomber, anti-submarine and a search & rescue seaplane. The type was used by numerous air forces including the United States Navy, United States Army Air Force, Royal Air Force and Royal Canadian Air Force.
